Etihad Airways has announced the launch of new seasonal flights to Malaga, Spain, to meet strong customer demand from across the UAE and GCC for flights to Andalusia’s iconic gateway. Beginning June 26 to September 13, 2020, three weekly flights will fly through the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
Robin Kamark, Chief Commercial Officer, Etihad Aviation Group, said: “Malaga has been on our wish list for some time and we are delighted to announce summer season services to the Costa del Sol, a city that has been popular with travellers from all over the UAE for decades. This is going to be the only connection between the UAE and Andalusia’s main gateway.
“Malaga will be the third destination of Etihad in Spain together with Madrid and Barcelona, further enhancing our successful operations on the Iberian Peninsula. Our next-generation 787 Dreamliners will operate the new flights, ensuring that we provide our company or vacation customers with the best product and service.
The three-class version of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from Etihad Airways features eight private First Suites, 28 Business Studios and 190 Smart Seats from Economy. The aircraft’s launch will also provide additional belly-hold cargo capacity between southern Spain and Abu Dhabi, as well as destinations on the regional route network of Etihad. Thanks to the popular Schengen visa waiver programme launched for UAE citizens in 2015, the number of visitors from the UAE to Spain has grown rapidly.
Malaga, famous as Pablo Picasso’s birthplace, is the main entrance point for tourists to Andalucía. The city’s airport provides easy road access to the Mediterranean coast’s popular holiday destination, including Marbella, and the historic cities of Seville, Córdoba, and Granada further inland. Malaga is the second busiest cruise port in the Iberian Peninsula after Barcelona.
