The relocation of the first international airline to Terminal 1 at the new King Abdul Aziz International Airport (KAIA) in Jeddah has been announced by the General Civil Aviation Authority of Saudi Arabia (GACA). All flights from Etihad Airways would be moved to Terminal 1 from November 18. Three daily flights from Jeddah to the UAE Abu Dhabi International Airport are scheduled.
Previously, Saudi Arabian Airlines had transferred its flights to the terminal to 35 domestic and international destinations.GACA clarified that, in collaboration with national and international airlines, the flight transfer programme was planned and will be gradually increased to ensure high performance.
The new terminal will allow all national and international airlines to operate under one roof. The total area of Terminal 1 covers 810,000 sq m, and can accommodate more than 30 million passengers annually. The terminal comprises 220 counters for check-in and 80 counters for self-service. It is fitted for international and domestic flights with 46 doors, including gates that can accommodate large bodied aircraft like A380. The gates are linked to 94 mobile bridge serving simultaneously 70 aircraft.
It also has an integrated baggage handling facility with a length of approximately 34 km and a 3-story 120-room hotel for international transit passengers.
