Jazeera Airways took off yesterday with its newest A320neo aircraft on its first “J9 1” flight to London, becoming the first low-cost airline to fly to the United Kingdom in the Middle East. The flight also marks Kuwait’s first new service to the UK in 55 years. Jazeera Airways flights to London Gatwick Airport South Terminal where the subway brings passengers directly to central London.
Michael Davenport MBE, Ambassador of Her Majesty to the State of Kuwait, said: “We are proud of this new service made possible by the new Air Services Agreement between Britain and Kuwait signed last year. The release coincides with our celebration of the Kuwaiti-British Friendship Treaty’s 120th anniversary.
“Britain and Kuwait are long-term partners, allies and friends as we continue to expand and deepen our partnerships in areas such as energy, education, health care and security. Trade and investment between our two countries are thriving, and the private sector in both countries has a major role to play in cultivating these through relationships.
“More Kuwaitis are studying at British universities than ever before. More than 6,000 at the last count. Many of them receive visits from their friends and families in Kuwait. Britain is the most popular travel destination for residents of Kuwait. Britain, with its 28 UNESCO World Heritage sites and eight dedicated heritage cities, as well as 10 national parks, offers a vast array of places to explore. The cities of Britain are a second home for many Kuwaitis, not just London, but Manchester, Cardiff, Milton Keynes, and Glasgow. We welcomed more than 150,000 Kuwaiti in Britain last year. Attracted by UK’s world-class luxury shopping, beautiful scenery, exclusive towns and a diverse calendar of cultural festivals and sporting events–not just the first league. Quad Payments
