The new aircraft added to the fleet of PIA, an Airbus a320, arrived at Karachi airport. According to officials of the national airline, the aircraft departed from Istanbul and reached Karachi at 7 am. “The aircraft will be first painted after which the logo of PIA will be placed on it,” an official said. “The Airbus A320 was purchased on a six-year dry lease.”
A dry lease is a long-term contract that offers an aircraft to an airline company without any crew, repairs or insurance. The fee shall be made on a monthly or annual basis. PIA took this lease from ALAFCO, an aircraft leasing company.
PIA now has 12 Airbus a320s after adding this aircraft. The total fleet of the airline is made up of 33 aircraft. In the first week of December, after it is updated, the Airbus a320 will be added to the fleet. Next month, a similar plane will arrive in town. From August 2010 to 2018, Saudi Airlines had previously used both aircraft. “Adding these new aircraft will facilitate air operations,” official Abdullah Khan of the PIA said. “During flights, travellers will also receive better services.”
